At Dayco, we’ve learned that some technicians aren’t checking total system alignment, they are only checking the belt itself. Below we outline two tools that will help technicians inspect the whole system, focusing first on belt wear and then on proper system alignment.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” text_align=”left” row_position=”default” row_position_tablet=”inherit” row_position_phone=”inherit” overflow=”visible” pointer_events=”all”][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”right” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” overflow=”visible” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”3/4″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” parallax_bg=”true” parallax_bg_speed=”very_subtle” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]

The Best Tool for Checking Belt Wear

When it comes to inspecting the serpentine belt, it’s important to look at how deep and wide the ribs are using an appropriate tool like the Dayco Awearness Gauge. This simple tool checks the profile and depth of the belt, as well as shows you if the rubber has any signs of cracking.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”left” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ background_image=”38974″ background_image_position=”center center” background_image_stacking=”default” enable_bg_scale=”true” background_image_loading=”default” column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” overflow=”visible” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/4″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” column_padding_type=”default” gradient_type=”default”][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”10vh”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1626687347939{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}”]Once a technician determines a belt needs to be replaced and they’ve inspected and replaced the other components within the system, the next important step is checking alignment.

Laser Alignment Tool Makes Checking Alignment Easy

Dayco’s Laser Alignment Tool performs better than other tools on the market. It features a durable and lightweight aluminum body. Magnets secure it into the grooves of the reference pulley, which is usually the crankshaft pulley, ensuring a stable stage for accurate laser projection. Dayco’s target component is also magnetic, so it easily attaches and aligns with the grooves of the target pulley. The laser projects a line, not just a dot, making it possible to identify both axial and angular misalignment.
