Dayco’s Memphis Distribution Center’s Packaging Engineer is responsible for providing engineering/technical support to the operation.  Specific areas of focus are packaging materials, equipment, products and distribution.  Additional areas of responsibility could also include new product development, product costing, establishing standards and specifications, process innovation, cost reduction initiatives and quality improvement projects.  


  • Plans/develops primary, secondary packaging and shipping/distribution containers for products in response to customer quality, Marketing requirements, working with dimensional tolerance, copy control, material compatibility/specifications and standards
  • Supporting and participating in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototypes
  • Designing and constructing new packaging or improvements to existing packaging; testing analyzing, and selecting materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness
  • Designing process(s) to manufacture packaging; overseeing the installation, operation, and maintenance of packaging machinery, systems, and processes to ensure optimal performance
  • Design quality assurance/control processes and procedures into packaging design which may include compliance with specific technical and regulatory standards related to product packaging
  • Cost saving projects relating to material purchases, labor efficiencies, and overhead reduction
  • Operations management special projects such as Lean Initiatives
  • Plans and directs process of obtaining equipment and tooling for new products. Capital approval authorization, equipment qualification and change control documentation along with vendor coordination, timely delivery and functionality of change over parts


  • Engineering Degree with Packaging concentration or a Packaging Engineering degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a packaging engineer (or 2 years working experience with a co-oo or internship experience)
  • Ability to provide creative and technical expertise to Marketing and Operations
  • Experience in successfully developing and maintain project timelines and budgets
  • Excellent mechanical ability with understanding of manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Must have exceptional ability and desire to collaborate and work as a team to accomplish goals
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams


  • Knowledge of process engineering and /or industrial engineering
